Icelandic Festival Parade, Gimli, MB - August 1, 2011, Monday

The 1st Monday in August is a Civic Holiday in Manitoba. It is also the day of the parade of the Annual Islendingadagurinn (Icelandicfest) in Gimli, MB. This year's celebration is the 122nd Festival. If you want more information about the Icelandicfest, visit http://www.icelandicfestival.com/.
The weather was perfect for the parade. The crowd was great and the participants were wonderful.
Starting off the parade are the RCMP and a pipe band.

Here come the Vikings!

I was in the lead car for the Manitoba Masonic Family. The beautiful convertible is owned by RWB Ben Kushner, who drove the car and was accompanied by RWB Wendell Loewen, both from Viking Lodge No 175.

Following me were Masons Care vans bearing the Deputy Grand Master, RWB Al Hadley, and the Senior Grand Warden, RWB Doug Webster.

Here comes the Manitoba Masonic Family Float bearing the representatives of the various Masonic Bodies - Scottish Rite, Daughters of the Nile, International Order of Job's Daughters and DeMolay. We also had the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba, MWB Ted Jones, on the float.

Here are the colors party and Pipe Band of the Khartum Shriners.

Following are pictures of the other Khartum Units which participated in this parade. The Motorcycle Escort led the Khartum contingent. Illustrious Sir Gary Saunders, Potentate of Khartum Shriners, rode a beautiful convertible.

The Chief Rabban, Noble Harry Rosenbaum followed.

Here are the Director's Staff on their motorized coolers.

Always present whenever the Shriners parade is the Editorial Without Words, one of the best recognized symbols of Shriners Hospitals.

And, of course, we had the clowns - the Khartum Komedians - in their colorful costumes, wigs and transportation.

The JGW, RWB Stano Spinal, drove his own convertible.

Here come the Ruff Riders.

As usual, the Oriental Band played the sweetest music.

The Skooters did their wonderful routines.

My daughter and my son trying their cooler riding techniques.
The DeMolays, families and friends with the GM and the DGM.

After the parade, the Grand Line Officers, Ladies and the DeMolays joined the Khartum Komedians at their wonderful Oasis for some refreshments.

It was an excellent parade and oasis in Gimli, a fitting end to the August long weekend.
